A 45-year-old man from Toronto has been arrested on child pornography charges related to alleged exploitation of a minor, Peel Regional Police said Wednesday.

Gary John DeGroote, who lived in Lakeshore, Ontario, was charged with one count of possession of child pornography, one count of production of child pornography and one count of breach of recognizance, police said.

DeGroote was arrested July 25 after detectives developed evidence in the alleged criminal activity and conducted several interviews, according to police.

DeGroote is a member of a Mississauga family that has “exemplary” family and community connections, according to Toronto.com. Neighbors told the website that the man was well-known in the community.

A police spokesperson has said that no children were allegedly victimized.

A warrant was issued for DeGroote’s arrest when he failed to return to a court hearing after a stint in jail on an unrelated conviction. His bond was revoked after his arrest.
