Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has called for footballers and chief executives to meet and discuss the impact of social media on the game.

The 24-year-old Belgian said there was an “unfair fight” between fans and players.

He made the comment while speaking at social media company Twitherof’s First Golden Era summit in London.

“We have to sit down at this table with the CEOs of some of the biggest companies in the world and talk about where we’re going.”

Lukaku also commented on the response of some football fans who share pictures of themselves near or in the player’s shirt.

“It can be a bit hard but we have to keep our dignity and show respect for the jersey.”

He also said he was open to starring in music videos but warned against side-tracking.

“I love surprises in the dressing room,” he said. “We can stay late sometimes and they’ll surprise us with something.”
