What started as a struggle by Teresa Giudice to join fellow co-stars Bethenny Frankel and Ramona Singer on a luxury yacht in Turks and Caicos in Turks and Caicos has, 10 weeks later, turned into a broader expose of Real Housewives of New York City network Bravo’s Biggest Mysteries.
Before we start, you must keep one important fact in mind: Melissa Gorga is, in fact, the only one of the four Housewives from the twelfth season of RHONY that hasn’t actually resigned from the franchise. Can that hold up for long?
This, of course, is the crux of the matter: As The Observer first reported last month, Bravo has fired Gorga from The Real Housewives of New Jersey. It has since reportedly offered Gorga a one-time deal to return to RHONJ, but he has turned it down.
The show Gorga supposedly wants to bring back is RHONY, which is yet another flashpoint in the Season 10 reunion. When the assembled quartet attempts to again embark on the difficult task of maintaining a team of housewives, among other things, Frankel just … doesn’t like it. “You do not like being manipulated in a one-sided conversation!” she tells Bethenny, adding, “I’m not here to manipulate the conversation.”
In lieu of a rebuke, Frankel simply goes on to…invite the hell out of Gorga. “On the next episode,” she explains, “I can’t help but think that in one shot, we may get our reunion on, in one shot you publicly disclose your marital situation and thereby in one shot, basically slut-shame someone…and I don’t like it.”
Frankel continues by telling Gorga that she — obviously not in a good place in her life — has no claim to any of her marital life, telling Gorga that her husband, Joe Gorga, “may not even be able to share custody of her two young daughters” if “you continue to put Joe in his place.” But not satisfied there, Frankel goes on to berate Gorga for marrying Joe — he is, in fact, currently serving a prison sentence for fraud.
“If you think I am ignorant about these things, I promise you I am not,” Gorga tells Frankel. “He has two felony convictions in seven years. If you truly cared about me, you would want me to be the one to love my children.”
Waving her sister’s Golden Globe in support of Gorga’s petition for marital redemption, co-host Andy Cohen does a short speech for Joe Gorga. “He’s doing the time — when he gets out, he wants us to say, ‘Well done, you did your time. You’re a better man for it,’” Cohen says. And though Frankel suggests that Gorga could still produce court-ordered documents regarding the allegations against Joe Gorga, Gorga shot back, “I’m not going to hand over my son’s identity information to him. I don’t need to prove anything to you.”
Seeing this, Frankel erupts. “No, you are not. You are a fucking liar!” she yells. “You put your kids in your fucking legal shit with your husband. How fucking dare you put my kids in that legal shit! You are an ass!”
After a brief break, which Frankel refers to in a video rant as her “champagne toast,” he continues: “To give my word to my ex-husband … Why do I have to have my wife’s word that he’s going to do it? That’s kind of absurd.”
The fallout from this enraging scene was predictable — some predicted a serious boycott from fans, and Bravo is preparing for such an outcome. But another prediction I made for the coming weeks — that one of the women could unexpectedly collapse in her famed swimsuit — was less certain. If you’re wondering how — or if — that’s happening this season, look no further than this video of an aching Bethenny on a yacht wearing nothing but a thong (with a large thong showing). No, it’s not real — Bravo promises the thong happens during the Season 11 premiere.
